Born in Jamaica
into a politically prominent family, Dave graduated from
high school as valedictorian, and was educated as a lawyer
in England. He married his high school sweetheart, Pauline,
after his freshman year of university. After returning to
Jamaica he became a partner of the oldest law-firm in
Jamaica when he was only 28 years old. God used the
emptiness of success at an early age to prepare both Dave
and Pauline for the gospel. As Dave used his legal training
to examine the evidence of the resurrection of Jesus Christ
and the fulfillment of ancient Hebrew prophecy, he was
convinced of the inerrancy of Scripture and the deity of
Christ at the same time. Both he and Pauline accepted the
Lord in 1972 together with their young children. This was
very unusual because very few professionals, executives or
leaders in Jamaica know Christ personally, and there still
are few Bible-believing churches geared towards ministering
to professionals and leaders.
Dave was given the gift of personal evangelism and
within 18 months of their conversion, with the help of
three other young businessmen, more than 200 new converts
from the professional and business sector of Kingston were
involved in over 20 home and office Bible studies. They
formed a group of twelve men called Doulos Associates, and
began to bring overseas speakers into Jamaica for outreach
events including an outreach dinner at their home attended
by over 500 people. Doulos (which means "bond-servant" in
Greek) also ran a tape and book lending library to give
support to this incredible movement of the Holy Spirit.
World Team Missions discipled us and give us leadership
training. By 1976, Dave felt he needed more theological
training and moved the whole family to Europe where he
studied under Dr. Francis Schaeffer and Dr. J. I.. Packer.
It was at this time that Dave and Pauline received their
call to full-time ministry.
We followed the vision that God had given us and
moved to the USA in 1979 to follow the steps of the Apostle
Paul by starting a church which was multiracial and
international like the Church at Antioch (Acts 11) and
which would spawn evangelism and missions around the world.
Accordingly after the International Community Church joined
with Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Miami, to become one
of the first truly multi-racial churches in the PCA in
Miami, we moved on to do the work of evangelism and
missions. We have been with Campus Crusade for Christ
International since 1988 ministering primarily to young
professionals and business men and women in Miami, other
parts of the USA, the Caribbean, Europe and worldwide.
